The Sehat Sahulat Program was established in 2015 with the goal of providing the greatest medical and health care services to Pakistan’s poorest inhabitants through a free micro health insurance system. Approximately 27695013 families have enrolled in the PM’s health program since then.
This program’s participants are allowed for all medical and surgical procedures, as well as hospitalization, maternity care, follow-ups, and consultations, without having to pay anything out of pocket. To use these services, individuals only require their Sehat Insaf Card, which is provided to all enrolled citizens and has a one-year validity period.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, the government wants to spend PKR 18 billion to provide free treatment and health care services to the 40 million people who live in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 35 districts.
The minister explained that PKR 2 lac has been set aside for emergency cases, general surgery, and maternity services, while PKR 4 lac has been set aside for diabetes, cancer, kidney illness, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disease. The remaining PKR 4 lac will be used to cover the costs of a kidney transplant, chemotherapy, and any unexpected expenses.

SEHAT CARD PLUS PROGRAM
Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), stated that the Sehat Card Plus program will now cover liver transplant treatment as well as OPD services.
He claimed that the treatment of essential diseases, including cancer and kidney transplants, had been included, and that free liver transplants had now been included in the program, while speaking at a ceremony in Peshawar to mark the first anniversary of the Sehat Card Plus scheme.
Other ailments that necessitate costly treatments will also be covered by the healthcare plan.
The ceremony was attended by Provincial Ministers Taimoor Salim Jhagra and Kamran Bangash, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Members of the Provincial Assembly Fakhar Jehan and Sultan Khan, as well as other officials.
According to Mahmood Khan, the Sehat Card Plus initiative is a vital step toward realizing the Prime Minister’s aim of establishing a welfare state.
“Not only is Sehat Card Plus a free treatment program, but it has also been proven to be a full package of social protection, which is also helping to eliminate poverty and increase the standard of living of the ordinary man,” he stated.
The CM further stated that the health insurance policy was started on a small scale during the previous government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and that after the PTI took power in the center in 2018, it chose to expand the scheme to the entire province.
“This flagship project has received national and international recognition and appreciation, and other provinces are now implementing health cards,” he continued.
The Sehat Card Plus initiative ensures each household receives free medical treatment worth up to Rs. 1 million every year, stated CM Khan.
“The scheme provided free care to 650,000 people last year at a cost of Rs. 11.5 billion,” he said, adding that the scheme had provided free treatment to 953,000 people since its inception.
According to the CM, the health insurance policy has funded over 5,000 heart procedures, 64 kidney transplants, and over 100,000 dialysis patients.
